Yesterday (1st
August 2012.), Electoral Commission of Assembly of Islamic Community in B&H
completed the process of signing up nominations for new Reisul-ulema who will
replace Dr. Mustafa ef Ceric in his position. Commission’s president and
president of Assembly Safet Softic stated for media that all five
candidates who where nominated by different regional representative bodies of
IC in Bosnia and abroad are, according to Constitution of IC and Electoral Rules,
eligible for this position.
An interesting
fact is that all candidates are either recent or former Muftis. Tuzla`s Mufti Husein
ef. Kavazovic received the most nominations, 11 of them from different
electoral districts. Halil ef. Mehtic, professor at Islamic Faculty in
Zenica and former Mufti received 5 nominations, while Mufti from Central Bosnia-
Travnik, Nusret ef. Abdibegovic received 4 nominations for this very
influential position not only in Bosnia, but also in the region.
Mufti of Sarajevo
Husein ef. Smajic and Mufti of Zenica Ejub ef. Dautovic both
received 3 nominations.
Electoral
Commission also gave candidates until 15th August 2012. to prepare
their programs to be presented to the Assembly of IC which will choose three candidates
will have two months to present their programs to public and larger electoral
body which will, according to the Constitution, elect the new Reis.
Exact dates
of these two meetings (that of Assembly and Electoral Body) are not yet set. But,
it is expected that gathering of Assembly during which 3 candidates will be
chosen for second round will be held at the end of August and that new
Reisul-ulema will be elected at the end of September or beginning of October by
special Electoral Body (almost 350 members) consisted from members of Assembly
(among them are representatives of IC in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Germany and
other countries of Western Europe, North America and Australia in which IC
B&H is active), members of Riyaset, Chief Imams and presidents of IC from
each municipality (Majlis), directors of madrasas and Islamic faculties, .
The whole
process of position handover should be completed by 19th November
when special ceremony is already planned.
